Frequently asked questions

Pricing and cancellation

Can I use it for free right after downloading?

Reading, searching, and exporting the notes you have already written are always free.

Creating new notes, editing text, and saving pages or notes shared from Safari or the Notes app need either a subscription or 3 days of access from watching an ad.

How much does it cost in my currency?

In Japan, the App Store price is 800 yen a month or 8,000 yen a year. In other countries, the price shown on the App Store product page applies.

What can I use during the one-month free trial?

When you subscribe for the first time, you can use every feature free for one month: creating and editing notes, saving what you share from Safari or the Notes app, and AI organizing (up to 300 uses during the trial), just as a subscriber would.

The trial starts when you subscribe from the subscription screen in the app. Installing the app alone does not start it.

When the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription automatically. If you do not want that, cancel in the App Store subscription settings before the trial ends.

How many times can I use AI organizing during the free trial?

Up to 300 times in total over the trial. After you reach 300, you can still create and edit notes; only AI organizing stops.

With a paid subscription, you can use AI organizing up to 5,000 times a month. AI organizing requires signing in.

What can I use after the free trial ends?

When the trial ends, it turns into a paid subscription automatically, and you keep every feature.

If you cancel before the trial ends, you can still read, search, and export the notes you have already written, free as before. Creating and editing notes, saving what you share from Safari or the Notes app, and AI organizing stop.

If you still cannot create or edit notes twenty days after the free trial ends, or thirty days after your paid subscription expires, your notes are removed from the note list in the app. This never happens while a subscription is active or during a period unlocked by watching an ad. Your note files are not deleted; they are moved into a dated Archive folder inside Documents. Archived notes no longer appear in in-app search, but you can open them from the Files app. A notice appears at the top of the list 7 days before they are removed.

How can I create and edit notes and use AI after the free trial ends?

There are two ways.

  • Subscribe. You can create and edit notes and save what you share from Safari or the Notes app, and use AI organizing up to 5,000 times a month.
  • Watch an ad. Each ad gives you 3 days of creating and editing notes, counted from when you watch it. Watching more ads does not add days together; the 3 days restart from the last ad you watched. Each ad also adds 10 uses of AI organizing.

Either way, AI organizing requires signing in.

How do renewal and cancellation work?

The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period. To stop it, open the Settings app on your iPhone, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose BijaVault, and tap Cancel Subscription.

If you are in the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. After you cancel, you can keep using the app until the end of the period you have already paid for.

After changing phones or reinstalling the app, use Restore Purchases in the app's Settings to bring your subscription back.

Can I use Family Sharing?

Family Sharing is not supported.

Where notes live and moving in

Where are my notes stored?

Your notes are stored only on your iPhone. They are not kept on our server.

Each note is a plain Markdown file (.md) in the app's folder. You can open them in the Files app under On My iPhone.

What happens to my notes if I cancel or stop using the app?

After you cancel, you can still read, search, and export the notes you have written. Not paying never locks you out of your own notes.

Notes are not locked into a private format; they are plain Markdown files. If you stop using BijaVault, the files stay on your iPhone and can be opened in any other app that reads Markdown or plain text.

Note that deleting the BijaVault app from your iPhone also deletes the notes inside it. Before deleting the app, move your notes somewhere else with the Files app.

If you only want to free up space on your iPhone, open the Settings app, go to General, then iPhone Storage, choose BijaVault, and use Offload App. Only the app itself is removed; its documents and data are kept, so your notes stay.

Will my notes survive a phone change or a broken phone?

Your notes are app data, so they are included in your iPhone's iCloud Backup. When you change phones, restoring from a backup or moving from your old iPhone with Quick Start brings your notes along.

Because notes are not kept on our server, they cannot be recovered if an iPhone without a backup breaks. To protect important notes, turn on iCloud Backup, or copy them to iCloud Drive or elsewhere with the Files app.

On a new iPhone, use Restore Purchases in the app's Settings to bring your subscription back.

How do I move notes from the iPhone Notes app?

Open the note you want to move in the Notes app and tap the share button. Check that Send a Copy is shown at the top of the screen, then choose BijaVault.

Notes are brought in one at a time. Because a copy is sent, the original stays in the Notes app. Bringing a note in counts as creating a note, so you can do it while subscribed, during the free trial, or during the 3 days unlocked by watching an ad.

Can I use it on iPad, Mac, or Android?

It works on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The Android version has not been released yet.

There is no sync between devices, so notes on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac are stored separately on each device.

The Mac app has different features from the iPhone app. See "The Mac app" below.

AI and privacy

Is the content of my notes used to train AI?

No. AI organizing runs on a model on Cloudflare Workers AI, and Cloudflare states that it does not store what is passed to Workers AI and does not use it to train AI or to improve its services. Our server does not store the text either, so no text is left with us that could be used for training.

The text is sent only when you are signed in and use AI organizing.

Is the text of my notes stored anywhere for AI organizing?

No. When you use AI organizing, the text of your notes is sent through our server to Cloudflare Workers AI. Our server only relays it and keeps nothing once processing is done. The text is not written to our server logs either.

Cloudflare states that it does not store what is passed to Workers AI and does not use it to train AI or to improve its services. Only the text is sent, not file names.

Could the text sent for AI be read on the way?

The text is sent to our server over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), so third parties cannot read it in transit.

Could the contents of my notes leak?

Your notes leave the device only when you are signed in and use AI organizing. Even then the text is not stored anywhere, so it does not accumulate on our server or anywhere else.

Notes on your device are protected according to your iPhone passcode and Face ID settings.

Could the AI rewrite my notes or add things that are not true?

The AI adds only four items at the top of a note: its type, title, description, and tags. It does not rewrite the body of the note, and it does not overwrite items you have already written.

When similar notes are found, the AI only proposes merging them. You choose whether to merge, delete one, or leave them as they are. Merging joins the text of the two notes as it is; the AI does not rewrite it. A deleted note moves to the trash, so you can bring it back.

The summary added when you share a web page is written by the AI from that page. It is placed after any note you typed when sharing.

Can I use the app without my notes ever leaving the device?

Yes. If you do not sign in, the text of your notes is never sent. You cannot use AI organizing or summaries of shared pages, but you can still write, search, and filter your notes.

If you are signed in, signing out from Account in Settings stops anything from being sent after that.

For details, see the Privacy Policy.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete it from inside the iPhone app. For the steps, see Delete Your Account.

Everyday use

Will there be too many features to handle?

When you open the app, it goes straight to a screen for writing a new note. Headings, lists, and tables can be written without learning any symbols, so you can use it without knowing Markdown.

AI organizing runs on its own once you are signed in, so there is nothing to set up. You can also use the app without signing in, just to write, search, and filter.

Can I add images or files?

You can add images. On the writing screen, use the + menu at the top to insert an image and pick one photo at a time from your photo library, up to 25 MB each.

Images you add are saved in an _images folder alongside your notes, where the Files app can reach them. Files other than images, such as PDFs, cannot be attached.

Will the app be slow to start or use?

The app is built so that you can start writing within one second of tapping its icon. In August 2026 we measured a development build 10 times on an iPhone 12 mini, and the median time until you could start writing was about 0.5 seconds.

Work that writing does not need, such as AI organizing, runs in the background after you can start writing.

Can I use it without a connection?

Yes. Writing, reading, and searching notes work without a connection.

AI organizing and summaries of shared pages need a connection. Once you are back online, organizing runs when you open the app.

The app checks your subscription with our server from time to time. If your subscription period ends while you are offline, you can keep writing for a while.

The Mac app

What can I do with the Mac app?

It is an editor that lets you write and save Markdown files as they will look. It shows a folder in the sidebar, displays open files in tabs, and lets you search and replace across files in a folder.

The iPhone app's accounts, sync, AI organizing, share sheet importing, subscriptions, and ads are not in the Mac app. All features are free.

Where does the Mac app save my notes?

In a folder you choose, as plain Markdown files (.md). Images you add to a note are saved in _images inside the same folder. Nothing is sent to the operator's servers.

The first time you open the app, it asks you to allow access to a folder. Click "Allow Access to Documents Folder" and choose a folder; that folder becomes where new notes are saved. While the sidebar shows a folder, new notes are saved there. You can change the location under "Where new notes are saved (when the sidebar is hidden)" in Settings.

If you click "Later", the app asks you where to save when you start writing a new note. If you do not choose a folder then, press ⌘S to choose one.

What do the hotkeys do?

Copy the path of an .md file and press Control+Option+M to open that file in the current tab. Press Control+Option+N to open it in a new tab. You can change the key combinations in Settings.

The app reads the path from the clipboard only when you press a hotkey, and it does not send what it reads anywhere.

What is BijaVault Helper?

A small helper program that keeps the hotkeys working while the app is not running. It is registered as a login item only if you turn on "Launch BijaVault Helper at login so the hotkeys keep working after you quit the app" in Settings. It is off by default.

BijaVault Helper only receives the hotkeys and opens the app, and it does not connect to the network. To stop it, turn the setting off. You can also disable it in macOS System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions.

Reporting a problem

If something in the app does not work as expected, we would be grateful if you let us know. We use your reports to find the cause and fix it.

Please write to info@bija-vault.com. Including the following helps us find the cause.

  • Your device (for example, iPhone 17 Pro or iPad Pro 13-inch)
  • The iOS version (or the macOS version for the Mac app)
  • The version of BijaVault
  • What happened, and what you did right before it

There is no need to send the text of your notes. The steps are enough.
