Keep once-a-year steps as a numbered list

Write steps as a numbered list, and when you add a step in the middle, the numbers below it shift down on their own.

Renumbering by hand

Cleaning the air conditioner filter is a once-a-year job. Last year you wrote down the steps with numbers. Following them this year, you find a step was missing. Adding it between steps 4 and 5 means retyping every number from 5 down.

The less often you do something, the more likely you are to forget a step. If fixing the list means renumbering it every time, keeping the list becomes a chore.

Write it as a numbered list

Open the note in BijaVault and tap “+” at the top right. Under “Lists, Tables & Images”, choose “Ordered List”. The line starts with “1.”. Write a step and press Return, and the next line starts with “2.”.

To add a step in the middle, press Return at the end of step 4 and write it. The old step 5 and everything below it move down by one automatically.

For next year

Write something like “Air conditioner filter cleaning” on the first line, and that becomes the note’s title in your list. Next year, type “filter” into the list’s search field and the note comes up.

What you need

Adding a numbered list requires a period in which you can write: while you have a subscription, or during the three days unlocked by watching an ad. Reading and searching your notes works at any time.
