Keep the book's words apart from your own thoughts

Make a passage you copy from a book a quote, and it gets a vertical line on its left. When you read your notes again, you can tell which lines came from the book.

The book’s words blend into yours

In six months your reading notes have covered 40 books. You copied out passages you liked and wrote your thoughts right below them. Reading them back, you can’t tell where the book ends. A sentence you thought was your own idea turns out to be the author’s.

Make the copied lines a quote

Open the note in BijaVault and tap “+” at the top right. Under “Text”, choose “Quote”. A line with a vertical bar on its left is added. Copy the passage there.

Pressing Return inside a quote moves to the next line of the same quote. When you have finished copying, press Return a few times. Once you are on a line without the bar, write your own thoughts there.

When you read it back, only the lines with the bar are the book’s words.

Separate books with headings

If you keep several books in one note, make each title a heading so the breaks are clear. Choose “H2” or another heading under “Text” in the “+” menu. To find a word inside the note, use the magnifying glass at the top right.

What you need

Adding quotes and headings requires a period in which you can write: while you have a subscription, or during the three days unlocked by watching an ad.
